Alberto Bertogli 61792e3bb4 Reject invalid characters in domains
Domains in addresses had very lax validation, which allowed them to
include characters like "/".

That could be exploited to trigger a daemon panic: a MAIL FROM
"x@evil/foo" could be accepted and, on failed delivery, a DSN queued.
Attempting to deliver the DSN would cause an MTA-STS cache lookup, which
would panic because the domain includes a "/" and crash the server.
Because the DSN would be queued, the server would crash again on
restarts, and only self-recover after give_up_send_after (20h by
default).

To fix this, we now explicitly validate the domain when normalizing it,
make MTA-STS cache not panic on invalid domains, and also make the SMTP
courier fail permanently on invalid domains.

Thanks to John JEAN <john@wargan.com> for finding and reporting this
problem. The detailed report can be found in
https://johnjean.io/advisories/chasquid-unauthenticated-remote-dos/.

Alberto Bertogli 8b19760f4e test: Use modern testing features instead of custom helpers
Many of our tests rely on helpers that predate features which are now
available in the standard library.

This patch replaces them with the standard equivalents:

- MustTempDir/RemoveIfOk -> t.ArtifactDir() or t.TempDir() (depending on
  whether it is useful to keep the data on request).
- GetFreePort + waitForServer -> opening the listeners before starting
  the servers. To support this, localrpc.Server gains a Serve method. We
  may re-introduce these in the future if more use cases appear.
- WaitFor and real-time timing checks -> testing/synctest.
- context.Background() -> t.Context().
- Benchmark b.N loops -> b.Loop().
- reflect.DeepEqual -> cmp.Diff, and proto.Equal for protobufs.

Alberto Bertogli 8d763f450d Apply more mechanical simplifications using recent Go features
This is a follow-up on the `go fix` run in commit
0210c5fd92.

That commit recorded the automated updates.

This one applies further simplifications that are mechanical and do not
involve logic changes, but are outside of what `go fix` did.

It also removes some now-obsolete comments and statements.

Alberto Bertogli 45580dae46 Update to math/rand/v2
This commit updates the uses of math/rand to math/rand/v2, which was
released in Go 1.22 (2024-02).

The new package is generally safer, see https://go.dev/blog/randv2 for
the details.

There are no user-visible changes, it is only adjusting the name of
functions, simplify some code thanks to v2 having a better API, etc.

Alberto Bertogli efefee9fbb test: Update fuzz tests to use the built-in infrastructure
Go 1.18 supports fuzzing natively, so this patch migrates our fuzzing
tests to make use of it.

Alberto Bertogli 4a00a83c23 Add tracing annotations
This patch changes several internal packages to receive and pass tracing
annotations, making use of the new tracing library, so we can have
better debugging information.

Alberto Bertogli 776bdc58ab Update Go doc comments to Go 1.19's format
This patch is the result of running Go 1.19's `gofmt` on the codebase,
which automatically updates all Go doc comments to the new format.

Alberto Bertogli 5bb17c7066 Update build tag constraints
This patch updates all build tag constraints to add the new format,
alongside the old one, to maintain backwards compatibility.

This was done by using `go fmt`.

See https://go.dev/doc/go1.17#gofmt and
https://golang.org/design/draft-gobuild for more details.

Alberto Bertogli cfe0e48c0a auth: Allow users without a domain
Some deployments already have users that authenticate without a domain.
Today, we refuse to even consider those, and reject them at parsing time.

However, it is a use-case worth supporting, at least with some
restrictions that make the complexity manageable.

This patch changes the auth package to support authenticating users
without an "@domain" part.

Those requests will always be directly passed on to the fallback
authenticator, if available.

The dovecot fallback authenticator can already handle this case just fine.

Alberto Bertogli b9f147fa8b trace: Use request tracing in auth and domaininfo
This patch adds tracing for the auth and domaininfo modules. In the
latter, we replace the long-running event with the short-term request
tracing, which is more practical and useful.

There are no logic changes, it only adds tracing instrumentation to help
troubleshooting.

staticcheck tool.

There are no functional changes.

Alberto Bertogli f3b01cb493 docs: Add missing docstrings, adjust wording to match standard style
This patch adds a missing docstrings for exported identifiers, and
adjust some of the existing ones to match the standard style.

In some cases, the identifiers were un-exported after noticing they had
no external users.

Besides improving documentation, it also reduces the linter noise
significantly.

Alberto Bertogli 420754b0a0 auth, dovecot: Add missing Reload tests
auth.wrapNoErrorBackend.Reload and dovecot.Reload were not being tested;
this patch fixes that by adding a simple test for each.

Alberto Bertogli 51e7c5c19e dovecot: Dovecot authentication package
This patch adds a new package which implements two basic primitives for
authenticating against dovecot ("user exists", and "check password").

It is still experimental/work in progress.

Alberto Bertogli d4992ef8c5 auth: Implement an Authenticator type
This patch implements an Authenticator type, which connections use to
do authentication and user existence checks.

It simplifies the abstractions (the server doesn't need to know about
userdb, or keep track of domain-userdb maps), and lays the foundation
for other types of authentication backends which will come in later
patches.

Alberto Bertogli 112e492c3a Normalize domains
We should ignore the domains' case, and treat them uniformly, specially when it
comes to local domains.

This patch extends the existing normalization (IDNA, keeping domains as
UTF8 internally) to include case conversion and NFC form for
consistency.

Alberto Bertogli ad25706d72 Normalize local usernames using PRECIS
This patch implements local username normalization using PRECIS
(https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7564,
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7613)

It makes chasquid accept local email and authentication regardless of
the case. It covers both userdb and aliases.

Note that non-local usernames remain untouched.

Alberto Bertogli 21e69aa42f Implement AUTH
This patch implements the AUTH SMTP command, using per-domain user databases.

Note that we don't really use or check the validation for anything, this is
just implementing the command itself.
